What is the Clean Commission?  The Clean Commission is a 22 year old non-profit organization that serves in Putnam County, to promote recycling and prevention of litter.  Through education in the classroom and at special events, the Commission strives to reinforce the practice of recycling and proper waste disposal.  The Clean Commission is partially funded by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transporation litter and recycling education grant, the City of Cookeville and donations from residents and the business and professional community through memberships.

Where can I recycled in Putnam County and what?  Go to the side bar on this web page and click on Putnam County Recyles to find locations nearest you.

When is the next Household Hazardous Waste Collection day?  Traditionally the mobile collection is set for the third weekend in September.  The Clean Commission is waiting for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to give us a date.

Is there a problem with litter in Cookeville?  Yes.  The City of Cookeville is very clean.  However, there are problems on the County roadways.  Our county roads do not have rights-of-way and they are usually hilly and curvy.  This makes it unsafe for volunteer groups to have litter crews working on the roadways.
